The Green Bay Packers have re-signed former 1,000-yard rusher James Robinson due to current running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon not being able to suit up for practice on Wednesday.
Robinson, who went undrafted as a rookie in 2020, made a name for himself in Jacksonville, running for over 2700 yards and 22 touchdowns in 3 years of production. The Illinois State product is a proven runner and someone you can plug into your offense right away.
When Head Coach Matt LaFleur was asked about the running back room and their injuries in a press conference last week, he said, “We’ll have a solution for it, I promise you.” That solution turned out to be adding James Robinson into the mix.
Running Back Aaron Jones Did Not Practice Wednesday for Green Bay Packers
Robinson may prove to be a reliable option in the backfield, but the Packers have a multitude of running backs at their disposal when healthy. Their star, Aaron Jones, has been dealing with injuries all season. Recently, it has been a knee injury.
Jones was taken out of the matchup versus the Los Angeles Chargers two weeks ago, striking his leg into the turf at the end of a run late in the second quarter. He has been sidelined since and looks to make a return this Sunday versus Kansas City. However, not practicing this late in the week does call for concern on his availability come Sunday night.
Aaron Jones is Not the Only Running Back on the Sideline for Wednesday’s Practice
AJ Dillon was also not seen on the practice field Wednesday, who has been dealing with a groin injury for the past few weeks. Dillon was listed as questionable going into last week’s Thanksgiving matchup versus the Detroit Lions. He played through the injury, rushing for 43 yards on 14 carries while catching all three of his targets for an additional 38 yards.
While Dillon played through the groin pain last Thursday, he practiced in a limited fashion all week leading up to the game. Him not practicing at all today is definitely something to monitor throughout the practice week, but don’t count Dillon out of the contest yet.
Packers short on skill guys again.
RBs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon plus WR Jayden Reed stayed inside with the rehab group. So did CB Jaire Alexander.

If both Jones and Dillon are ruled out for Sunday night’s showdown versus the Chiefs, Robinson and former New England Patriot Patrick Taylor would serve as the Packers primary running backs.
