NFL: The Green Bay Packers are doing their homework this off-season. With the incredible amount of change within the organization, the team is leaving no stone left unturned. Today they brought in a defensive back who earned all-state honors competing in Virginia.
Green Bay Packers Workout Defensive Back Zane Lewis (NFL)
The Packers are hosting former Air Force defensive back Zane Lewis. Lewis went un-drafted in 2020. The Jets released him in May 2022 following an injury. Standing 6-foot-1, he had one interception in college.
Zane Lewis was born April 6, 1998 in Richmond, Virginia. He attended Trinity Episcopal High School in Richmond, Virginia. He was second-team all-state in football as a junior and all-metro honoree in track two years. He earned the Richmond Dispatch Athlete of the Month honor once. and was first-team all-state honors in football as a senior.
At this point, Lewis may be considered for a practice squad position, however, Rich Bisaccia has made it clear he loves speed on special teams. Lewis fits that mold well for any team looking to add speed to their roster.
The Packers mowed through the Cincinnati Bengals in their preseason opener, 36-19, but they did suffer a notable special teams injury. Packers Tight End Tyler Davis suffered and ACL tear after scoring a touchdown. Davis went to the sideline reporting a knee injury. Tests were done later confirming the tear that will keep Davis out of the 2023 campaign. The team could certainly be looking to add to their special teams unit after this brutal news.
