NFL: The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers start the regular season against each other in just 12 short days. The two teams are banking on their young quarterbacks to lead their team to victory. The Packers handed the keys to Jordan Love this off-season after trading away four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
The Bears invested in Justin Fields this off-season by trading away the number one overall pick. The trade enabled the Bears to surround Fields with quality weapons, frankly, something he didn’t have last year. Now, less than two weeks prior to their matchup with Green Bay, the Bears have completed another trade.
Chicago Bears Trade For Veteran Guard Dan Freeney Prior To Matchup With The Green Bay Packers (NFL)

Per Chicago Bears reporter Courtney Cronin:
The Bears are sending a 2024 6th round pick to the Miami Dolphins for veteran guard Dan Feeney, source confirms. With Teven Jenkins leg injury keeping him “week to week,” Chicago adds much needed interior depth w/ an OL who has experience at LG, C and RG.
The Bears have suffered an incredible amount of injuries prior to the start of the 2023 season. A few of those injuries have had massive impacts on their offensive line.
It was a tumultuous preseason finale for the Bears as three interior linemen were unable to play due to injuries. Among the trio, which also includes guard/center Lucas Patrick and right guard Nate Davis, left guard Teven Jenkins is believed to have suffered the most serious injury.
According to coach Matt Eberflus, Patrick is considered “day-to-day.” There have been injuries to Davis this summer that remain unrevealed. On Saturday, backup center Doug Kramer was injured in the right hand/thumb area. One day before roster cuts, Jenkins’ injury necessitated a move like this.
The Green Bay Packers Are Relatively Healthy Along The Defensive Line

As he continues to recover from a torn ACL, Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary is making progress. During a press conference last week, head coach Matt LaFleur announced that Gary would participate in 11-on-11 drills.
On August 7, Gary was removed from the physically unable to perform list. While he has done individual drills, this move enabled him to take things to the next level by participating in group drills.
As far as their potential rotation goes, the Packers have Lukas Van Ness, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark, Kingsley Enagbare, and Devonte Wyatt. Any offensive line would be intimidated by that defensive line, let alone one missing multiple starters. Come September 10th, when the Packers take on the Bears, the defensive line has to be excited about their opportunity.
