Rumors regarding Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets are at an all time high. The two most recent ones really lit a fire under the Aaron Rodgers Jets rumors. First was the New York Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly announcing that he would be happy to trade two first-round picks for Rodgers. The second happened when when the Jets hired former Packers Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Hackett was hired to be the offensive coordinator of the Packers in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 the Packers’ offense was near the top of the league in nearly every meaningful statistic. Jets players are certainly hearing the talk, and one sounded off on the idea of an Aaron Rodgers trade.
Cornerback Sauce Gardener Sounds Off On The Idea Of Packers Trading For Aaron Rodgers
When asked about the possibility of teaming up with Aaron Rodgers, Jets Cornerback Sauce Gardener had this to say:
I wouldn’t mind that. I want what’s best for the offense, but at the same time I’ve just got to focus on my job and focus on what we’ve got going on on the defensive side.
Gardener has been vocal for his support of Jets’ current quarterback Zach Wilson despite his struggles during his first two seasons:
I rock with Zach, man. We chop it up every time we see each other. He’s a great person to be around. He has a lot of knowledge, he gives me a lot of knowledge since I first stepped into the building, and I’ve tried to do the same thing for him.
He’s gone through a lot of adversity, and I know that if it were me he would have my back. So it wasn’t anything like that. I wasn’t thinking of the quarterbacks. The media thinks about the quarterbacks and talks about the quarterback situation way more than the players do, especially defense.
Over the course of his first two seasons in the NFL, Zach Wilson has accumulated 4,022 passing yards, a 55% completion rate, 15 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. After being selected second overall in the 2021 NFL draft, the New York Jets may be looking to find a replacement sooner rather than later. Whether or not they actually try to trade for Aaron Rodgers remains to be seen, however recent events certainly can’t rule it out.
