The Jets have been rumored to be interested in trading for Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the last few weeks. They made the decision after the season to part ways with Mike LaFleur, brother of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, as their offensive coordinator. They have just hired Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Hackett’s History With the Packers
Hackett was hired to be the offensive coordinator of the Packers in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 the Packers’ offense was near the top of the league in nearly every meaningful statistic. Additionally, Aaron Rodgers won back-to-back league MVPs when Hackett was the OC. In 2022 Hackett was hired by the Denver Broncos to be the head coach. At that time it was also unsure whether or not Aaron Rodgers would return, and if it would be with the Packers.
Plenty of analysts predicted that Denver would land Aaron Rodgers with the hiring of a coach who Rodgers spoke of glowingly. Obviously, Denver did not end up with Aaron Rodgers. They traded for Russell Wilson who did not perform to expectations. Denver’s offense was one of the league’s worst and Hackett was fired before the season ended.

Hackett previously called plays in Buffalo and Jacksonville, where he worked with Robert Saleh, and was widely revered during his tenure as Green Bay’s OC. A big hire. pic.twitter.com/XfP2LtNuYz

Today, the Jets have hired him. This is the second year in a row that a team looking for a quarterback has hired Nathaniel Hackett. The Jets have already been linked to Aaron Rodgers through trade rumors. It’s possible that they are trying to do everything in their power to lure him to the Jets. The strategy did not work out too well for Denver, but it seems like there is a greater chance Rodgers gets traded this off-season than last season.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers
The Jets can do whatever they want to try and get Aaron Rodgers. However, until the star quarterback decides if he even wants to play nothing can happen. Aaron Rodgers’ last appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” revealed a lot about his process and mindset. He stated that he would love to retire in Green Bay, but he also mentioned that for him to return to Green Bay it would have to be a mutual agreement between him and the front office.
