When it comes to sports franchises, there are a few contenders for the most popular. While Madden and NBA 2K might sell more copies, no franchise is more beloved among the actual fans of the sport than MLB The Show. While many NFL and NBA players and coaches deride the gameplay and features in those games, The Show tends to get love from everybody who plays it.
The only real detractors of the game are players who feel a type of way about how low their ratings are. Unfortunately, not everyone can be a 99 overall player. Some players have to learn the hard way.
Perhaps that’s the real reason Arch Manning was against having his player appear in the upcoming NCAA Football game. Maybe he just doesn’t want to be offended by a potential low rating.
The Milwaukee Brewers don’t seem to have too many players with high ratings this year – perhaps that’s a sign of things to come in the real world? Regardless, these are the 5 players with the highest ratings.
Milwaukee Brewers – C Williams Contreras – 86 OVR
William Contreras had a solid 2023 season for the Milwaukee Brewers. He hit for .289 with 17 home runs and 78 RBIs. He also showed some good on-base skills with a .367 OBP. While not breaking any records, Contreras’ all-around hitting and power helped him establish himself as a valuable asset behind the plate. He’s a good fielder as many Brewers fans are aware of.
86 might be a little low but considering he’s only 26 years old, he has nowhere to go but up in his young career.
Milwaukee Brewers – RP Devin Williams – 84 OVR
This one was certainly head-scratching for sure.
Devin dominated as Milwaukee’s closer in 2023. Taking on the role full-time, he excelled, racking up 36 saves in 61 appearances. His minuscule 1.53 ERA ranked among the league’s best. He’s well-known as one of Baseball’s best relievers, so why is he given such a mediocre rating? Maybe it’s due to his injury. Now we know why some of the players are upset when it comes to the game’s rankings.
Milwaukee Brewers – SS Willy Adames – 84 OVR
A fan favorite, Adames decided to stay with Milwaukee for the 2024 season to the tune of a 1 year/$12M deal. After all the trade talks and rumors of cuts, he’s coming back. A contract that good should result in a high rating, right?
Eh. 84 isn’t too unfair, but it’s still low. Adames hit 24 HRs and drove in a lot of RBIs, but his lower batting average and high rate of strikeouts are reasons for concern. He is seen as one of the league’s best fielders, but that isn’t valued as much in today’s game.
Milwaukee Brewers – SP Freddy Peralta – 84 OVR
Peralta had a strong season for the Brewers in 2023, establishing himself as a key part of their pitching rotation. He finished with a 12-10 record and a 3.86 ERA across 30 starts, both career highs.r Brewers fans know him as a strikeout machine, racking up 210 strikeouts in 165.2 innings pitched.
84 overall is pretty fair for Freddy.
Milwaukee Brewers – SP Brandon Woodruff – 81 OVR
Brandon’s 2023 season with the Brewers was a tale of two halves, marked by both promise and injury. He pitched well in his initial starts, going 5-1 with a stellar 2.28 ERA across 67 innings, but then injuries got to him unfortunately. He missed time due to that shoulder injury, and even though he came back and finished with an 8-1 record, his injury has caused him to be overlooked and underrated by many.
81 is way too low, even by The Show’s unbelievably high standards. Injuries usually do cause a player’s rating to go down in most sports games, but 81 for someone with those stats? Unreal.
To rub salt in Brewer’s fans’ wounds, Corbin Burnes is going to lead all Orioles players with an 88 overall rating. Would he have gotten that rating had he stayed in Milwaukee? Probably not, as there just might be a bias the team has going against them.
