MLB News: The Chicago Cubs have been on a tear since the All-Star break and their playoff odds have skyrocketed. Their persistent offense has played a huge role in this. They also have been winning games with one key piece of their starting rotation struggling over that stretch in which he eventually ended up on the injured list.
After the All-Star break Marcus Stroman put together a quality start of six innings pitched and one earned run against the Boston Red Sox. Following that game he allowed 17 earned runs in three starts and didn’t make it past the fourth inning in any appearance. On August 1 he was placed on the IL with hip impingement, but now is reportedly nearing a return to the starting rotation after a minimum length stay.
Chicago Cubs ace Marcus Stroman set to return on Wednesday, August 16 (MLB News).
David Ross, Chicago Cubs manager, reported to the press that Marcus Stroman completed a 50-pitch bullpen session on Friday. He is now on track to return from the IL once eligible and could start that day against the Chicago White Sox. Should he return healthy he could provide a big boost to the Cubs for the final month and a half of the regular season.
