MLB News: The red hot Chicago Cubs have quite the starting pitching staff. Southpaw Justin Steele currently has the best odds on the team to win the Cy Young award but his teammate Marcus Stroman is not far behind him. Unfortunately one of them is heading to the injured list with a hip injury.
Chicago Cubs Cy Young candidate Marcus Stroman is heading to the IL (MLB News).
Per Meghan Montemurro of The Chicago Tribune Marcus Stroman is heading to the IL with hip inflammation. Taking his roster spot will be Jose Caus, who was just acquired at the deadline from the Kansas City Royals.
Over his last three starts Marcus Stroman has struggled. He has given up 17 earned runs in just 10 innings pitched. This has caused his ERA to sky rocket from 2.88 to 3.85.
Before these last three outings Marcus Stroman was a front runner for the Cy Young award. His now inflated ERA has severely impacted those chances, but more importantly he needs to be healthy if the Cubs are going to make a push for a playoff spot.
At the time of his injury being announced Chicago is one game over .500, four games back in the division, and three games back of a Wild Card Spot. No timetable has been given as to how long Marcus Stroman will be out for.
