Throughout the current season, the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers have clashed in several intense games. The latter’s All-Star point guard, Tyrese Haliburton, has come out to say that the tension between both teams can’t be called a rivalry just yet.
In the five times Milwaukee faced the Pacers this season, the 2021 champions only won one game. This victory came in December and coincided with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s career-high and franchise-record performance of posting 64 points in that contest.
Due to those records being broken, the Greek Freak naturally wanted to take the game ball home after the match. This caused a tension-filled moment to come after the game because the Pacers allegedly took it for Oscar Tshiebwe, a rookie who scored his first points during the game, leading Antetokounmpo to retrieve it on his own.
While that issue has been resolved, there seems to be some animosity growing between the two teams. The thing is, the Pacers’ franchise player isn’t buying the rivalry just yet.
The Reason Why The Milwaukee Bucks vs. Indiana Pacers Rivalry Isn’t a Thing Yet, According to Tyrese Haliburton
Along with Grant Hill, Haliburton shares his thoughts about the perceived rivalry between Milwaukee and Indiana in an episode of The Woj Bomb. According to the All-Star point guard:
“I don’t want to say it’s a rivalry yet because I feel there’s a proven championship team over there and I’ve never played in a playoff game so I don’t necessarily call it a rivalry. I know that there are probably a lot of people out there that would call it that.
There’s been obviously some extra curricular activities this season between the both of us. So I don’t know right now in the standings they’re the 3 seed and we’re the 6 seed. I think that people would enjoy to see that playoff, I would enjoy that playoff match-up, I think they would enjoy that playoff match-up as well,” Haliburton said.
As it stands, there needs to be a playoff series between the Bucks and the Pacers before Haliburton can christen it as a rivalry. With both teams projected to enter the playoffs soon, that can become a reality, which will be a treat for fans of both franchises.
