Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo left Tuesday’s game with a left soleus strain in the second half against the Boston Celtics and he did not return to the game. Milwaukee won this game easily over Boston by a final score of 104-91.
Before Antetokounmpo got hurt, he had 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and one steal in the contest. When he left the game with the injury, Milwaukee Bucks fans were nervous about how serious this injury could possibly be.
Milwaukee Bucks Receive Fortaunte News On Giannis Antetokounmpo
On Wednesday morning, league sources told The Athletic and the Stadium that Antetokounmpo has avoided damage to his left Achilles, which is the best-case scenario for him. His return to play will be based on treatment and rehab responses to the calf.
Milwaukee has just three games remaining during the regular season and they have a 48-31 record. The Bucks are the two seed in the Eastern Conference. With just a few games remaining in the regular season, Antetokounmpo probably will not play in any of those games and probably just hope he will be ready to go in Game 1 of the first round in the NBA playoffs.
This season with Milwaukee, he averaged 30.4 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 6.5 APG. His points per game total is ranked second in the NBA, his rebounds per game total is ranked sixth in the NBA, and his assists per game total is ranked 14th in the NBA.
It is a very good thing that they did not lose him for the season and it is also a very good thing that the Achilles was not torn. If it was torn, he would have been out for this season and some of next season as well. The Bucks and Antetokounmpo have been unlucky with injury breaks over the last few years.
It is more important at this point for Milwaukee to be healthy rather than being the two seed. They will have to play the Orlando Magic twice in the final three games of the season, but this means that other players can step up in the meantime. Orlando is 46-33 and the fourth seed in the East. The New York Knicks are currently the third seed in the East with a 47-32 record and they beat the Bucks earlier in the week.
Will see in the next game who could potentially start over Antetokounmpo for Doc Rivers’s squad. It is better the injury happened now rather than in the postseason.
