Earlier this season, Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley confidently stated that it’s going to be “light work” getting to Ray Allen’s franchise 3-point record. True enough, Beasley delivered on his promise during Friday’s lopsided win over the Charlotte Hornets.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard drained another seven triples in the game, en route to shattering Allen’s record for the most games with at least five triples in a single season.
Malik Beasley Reacts to Historic Milwaukee Bucks Milestone
Beasley finished with 21 points on Thursday, with all his points coming from beyond the arc. He went 7-of-9 from the field, to go along with two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in just 25 minutes of action.
Thanks to his big night, Beasley now has 13 games this season wherein he’s knocked down at least five triples. Allen’s previous record stood at 12, which means that Beasley now stands alone atop the list.
And we still have more than a third of the regular season remaining.
“It’s honestly a blessing, man,” Beasley said of breaking Allen’s long-standing record, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I watched that game live when he hit the backpedal three to take (the Heat) back in the game (of the 2013 NBA Finals) in Miami.
“Just to be a part of that name, that elite company, is huge. I’m just thankful to have my name up there.”
Allen is a Bucks icon and for Beasley just to be mentioned in the same breath as the Hall of Famer is an absolute honor for him.
It’s also a commendable feat for the 27-year-old to break the record in his first season with the Bucks. This speaks volumes of how deadly Beasley is from beyond the arc, as well as how well he’s been able to fit in with Milwaukee’s offense.
