Malik Beasley Gunning for Ray Allen’s Milwaukee Bucks Record: ‘That’s Light Work’

Malik Beasley poured in 15 points on Friday as he helped the Milwaukee Bucks beat out the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, 119-111. Beasley went 5-of-9 from the field in 35 minutes of action, with all five of his made field goals coming from beyond the arc.

That’s now nine games this season that Beasley has knocked down at least five triples in a game. The Bucks have played just 32 games in 2023-24, which clearly speaks volumes of Beasley’s efficiency from rainbow territory.

Beasley’s nine games with at least five treys are now tied for second place in the Bucks’ record books. During the 2018-19 season, Brook Lopez reached that same mark. The current record holder, however, is the great Ray Allen who had 12 games with five or more triples during the 2001-02 season.

Beasley is well aware of the fact that he is now just four games away from setting a new franchise record. At this point, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard is adamant that he’s going to beat out Allen’s mark sooner or later:

“That’s light work,” Beasley said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’m going to beat that. The ball is moving. The ball is moving. When we don’t play well…I’m not trying to be a type-player or anything, but if I don’t get more than 4 threes then the ball’s not moving. With Giannis, Khris and Dame, they’re going to double-team them, so if I just stay in the corner and say ‘present,’ I’ll be good. I’m just thankful we’ve got a great team. It hasn’t happened much and even if it does happen and those guys are doing what they’re supposed to do, we get the win.”

    Ray Allen Bucks

I actually see no lies here. Ray Allen is obviously one of the greatest players to ever dawn a Bucks uniform and it’s truly an honor for Beasley to be mentioned in the same breath as the Hall of Famer. However, if Beasley and the Bucks continue to play like they have been over the past few weeks, it should only be a matter of time before Beasley sets a new franchise record.

As he acknowledged, he has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Milwaukee’s new Big 3. With the defense gravitating toward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton, the other players on the court get a lot more open looks. It now becomes a matter of making your opportunities count when they come, and Beasley has had no issue with that whatsoever thus far.

It has been a tough season for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, as losses have mounted and the team has slipped further from even a Play-In spot. With Giannis’ commitment hanging in the balance, the Bucks need to move quickly to regain his trust and keep their championship window open. The path won’t be simple, but Giannis has already laid out a blueprint for success, if the organization is ready to follow it. “Some claim that Antetokounmpo misses playing with players like Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton, who were partners in the 2021 championship run,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus. “That’s not to suggest he wants to get the band back together. Still, some suggest Antetokounmpo doesn’t want to play with a ball-dominant lead guard, preferring to be the primary engine driving his team’s offense (Holiday and Middleton were comfortable playing without the ball around Antetokounmpo).” It’s understandable that Giannis misses the teammates he won a championship with. With Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday, the Bucks had the ideal mix of skill and unselfishness, letting Giannis drive the offense. The ball stayed mostly in his hands, though Khris and Jrue were always free to take their chances when opportunities arose. In the end, everything centered on Giannis, creating a straightforward structure that clarified each player’s role. Even better, both Middleton and Holiday were strong defenders, easing the burden on Giannis and allowing him to lead the team on both ends of the court. On the other hand, Giannis has experienced playing with another ball-dominant star. He spent years alongside Damian Lillard, who thrives when controlling the offense and creating opportunities for teammates. Their strong personalities and demanding styles often collided in Milwaukee, sparking a power struggle on the court that was never fully resolved. With Giannis’ future uncertain, the Bucks are under intense pressure to shape the roster around his vision. Failing to meet his expectations could push him to leave, potentially setting the franchise back for years. This summer, despite a tight market, the Bucks could pursue players like Quentin Grimes, Rui Hachimura, Collin Sexton, or even LeBron James. Rumors also suggest a potential run at Kawhi Leonard. Whoever they bring in, simply adding talent won’t be enough to elevate the team, they’ll need the right fit to take the next step.
