Michael Redd goes way back with former Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl. After all, Redd was the team’s big star during a significant period in Kohl’s tenure as the team’s governor.

This is exactly why it comes as no surprise that Redd has been deeply affected by the passing of not only his former employer but also someone who became a very good friend.

Redd took to Twitter on Thursday to deliver a beautiful eulogy to honor the legacy of the late Herb Kohl:

“My heart is heavy as I reflect on the passing of Senator Herb Kohl,” Redd said. “Profound respect doesn’t begin to describe the admiration I have for him and the massive impact he’s had on my life. Our weekly breakfast meetings at the Pfister hotel are clear in my memory, a testament to his authenticity and kindness.

“Senator Kohl, to me, wasn’t just an owner — he was family. I’m forever grateful for the chance he took on me, allowing me to call Milwaukee home for the majority of his career.”

Redd joined the Bucks in 2000 as a second-round pick, and you can be sure that Kohl played a key role in the team’s decision to take a chance on the former Ohio State standout. Kohl made sure to maintain a strong connection with Redd throughout the former All-Star’s time in Milwaukee, with the billionaire taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with Redd for breakfast on a weekly basis.

As Redd said, Kohl had a tremendous impact on his career and his life. The former Bucks guard had nothing but high praise for his fallen mentor:

“His legacy, beyond that, is more than basketball — it’s the unwavering commitment to keeping the Bucks rooted in Milwaukee. … We’re lost a true gentleman, but his legacy, like his impact on the Bucks, will endure and never be forgetten,” Redd wrote.
