The Milwaukee Bucks scored an impressive 144-122 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. However, this team was on the receiving end of some terrible news just before tip-off after it was reported that former owner Herb Kohl had passed away at the age of 88.
The Bucks released their official statement during the Nets game as they honored their former leader.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Statement on Herb Kohl’s Passing
The heartfelt statement highlighted Kohl’s massive role in the evolution of the squad, which also included making sure that the Bucks would remain in Milwaukee:
“Senator Kohl was a lifelong and proud Wisconsinite who cared deeply for his state and the city of Milwaukee. As the Bucks owner, he was steadfast in making sure the team remained in the city and his generosity led to the building of the Fiserv Forum, which is on Herb Kohl Way. Even after selling the team, Senator Khol loved the Bucks and was always seen in his team cap around town,” read the statement.
Kohl, who served as the team owner between 1985 and 2014, balanced being a team owner with the duties of a United States Senator. He served as the senator from Wisconsin from 1989 to 2013.
The statement, which was posted on Twitter, then went on to heap praise on the generosity of Kohl and the unbridled legacy he has left behind:
“The Senator leaves behind an unmatched legacy in philanthropy, often anonymously, and through his incredible Herb Kohl Foundation. His impact in sports, public service, and business will always be remembered in our state. The Bucks express our deepest condolences to the Senator’s family and friends. A memorial to honor him will be held in the coming weeks,” read the statement.
