Giannis Antetokounmpo was in the zone as he helped the Milwaukee Bucks take care of business by beating the Detroit Pistons twice in a row. The thing is, the Greek Freak accomplished that feat and broke a record set by Jason Kidd without anyone noticing.
In those two contests against the Pistons, the latter of which saw Khris Middleton make history, Antetokounmpo averaged 29.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He was also efficient with his shots by connecting 51 percent of them from the field.
But during last Monday’s game, the All-Star forward went ahead and surpassed Kidd’s 17,529 points on the all-time scoring list. This makes Antetokounmpo the NBA’s 89th leading scorer of all time.

The wild thing about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent achievement was it almost went unnoticed. On a night when stars and fans alike praised Middleton for making history, the Greek Freak’s own accomplishment went under the radar for many people.
The irony, of course, is Kidd was Antetokounmpo’s former coach for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. During that period, the All-Star forward averaged 19.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.
Antetokounmpo’s time under the tutelage of Kidd saw the Greek Freak go from an unpolished project to one of the best players to ever step on an NBA court. And even after the former Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets star left the franchise, Antetokounmpo continued to thrive, even becoming an NBA champion in 2021 when the Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns.
At this point in time, the Milwaukee Bucks are second in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics. With Antetokounmpo playing at an elite level, Damian Lillard running point, and Middleton providing offense from the wing, there’s no reason for the Bucks not to make it far in the postseason.
