Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo already has two MVP trophies under his belt. He could now be on his way to winning a third title this season amid what has been a truly impressive campaign for the Bucks talisman.
Despite the amazing things Giannis has been doing this season, however, more than a few folks out there still aren’t convinced that he should be a frontrunner for the MVP title. According to Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, this is simply disrespectful.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Calls Out Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Naysayers

According to Coach Doc, there’s one major reason why there’s not enough clamor surrounding Antetokounmpo’s claim to the MVP title this season. Rivers believes that Giannis is following in the footsteps of the GOAT himself, Micheal Jordan.
It’s not that the Bucks star is emulating MJ’s eminence or anything like that (or is he?), but Rivers argues that much like Jordan, the pundits might be getting a bit too desensitized to Giannis’ greatness:
“I don’t even want to get into it, but there’s been guys that you get tired of voting for,” Rivers said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Michael (Jordan) may be the poster child of that.
“And Giannis seems to be in that category; where you’re so good, everything you do is taken for granted. When you just look at his numbers, they’re incredible, and yet, you never hear his name. It’s unbelievable, but that’s a sign of respect more than disrespect in some ways.”
He’s not wrong.

For what it’s worth, Antetokounmpo is considered one of the “sleepers” to bag the MVP title in 2023-24. The consensus favorites are currently Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Giannis and Rivers might be planning on changing that narrative soon.
