The Milwaukee Bucks are not doing great so far in the Doc Rivers era. They have lost four losses in the five games that Rivers has been at the helm of the team, and their problem may have gotten a little bigger with Khris Middleton suffering an ankle injury in Tuesday night’s 114-109 road loss at the hands of Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.
Milwaukee Bucks HC Doc Rivers Shines Light On Pat Connaughton‘s Confidence
After the game, Rivers was asked about the thought process behind the decision to continue sitting out Andre Jackson Jr. and MarJon Beauchamp despite Middleton’s sudden exit. Rivers then brought up the name of Pat Connaughton, whose confidence level is one thing that the Bucks head coach is looking to improve.
Via Eric Nehm of The Athletic:
Definitely. But we don’t want too many guys on the floor, too many guys that haven’t played. But Andre was probably the guy tonight that we looked at, but guys got going. I thought Beasley had it going. I’m trying to build Pat’s confidence back. I don’t know if he’s lost it or not, but I just think he can help us and I’m trying to actually give him more minutes. In a normal thing, I’d probably play one of the other guys. I’m trying to get Pat going. I think he’s important for us later. That’s why.
It seems that confidence was not much of an issue for Connaughton during the Suns game, as he scored 12 points on 4/6 shooting from the field and 3/5 shooting from behind the arc, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists. The Milwaukee Bucks ultimately lost to the Suns, 114-106, but it must feel good for both Rivers and Connaughton that the latter was able to show up and perform well as part of the starting unit.
