Thursday night’s marquee matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks will be extra special for Jrue Holiday. This will be the second time he will battle his former team since his summer move to Boston, but this will be his first trip back to Milwaukee since the blockbuster trade.
At this point, there’s no doubt as to where Holiday’s loyalty currently lies.
Jrue Holiday’s Message Ahead of Milwaukee Bucks Showdown
Speaking to reporters after Boston’s 127-120 overtime win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, Holiday was asked to share his thoughts on his return to Milwaukee. The two-time All-Star guard got brutally honest in his response:
“Uh, we’re a good team. We’ve beaten them before and I’m very confident we have a good chance to beat them again,” he said, via Jay King of The Athletic. “So to be able to go back to Milwaukee should be fun. … I was there for three years and we did great things there but I’m on to better things.”
As Holiday said, it’s the Celtics who are up 1-0 in their season series against the Bucks. This was after Boston secured a hard-fought 119-116 victory at the TD Garden on November 22.
For his part, Holiday did not have the best of games against his former team, finishing with five points on 1-of-8 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds, and one assist in 35 minutes of action.
Jrue is clearly excited about playing in Milwaukee again, and he could be playing with a chip on his shoulder come Thursday night.
