The Green Bay Packers moved on from multiple key veterans as a part of a youth movement within the roster. From future hall of famers like Aaron Rodgers and Mason Crosby to contributors like Rasul Douglas and Aaron Jones. This expulsion of vets has opportunities for young players all around the depth chart.

One of those positions includes off-ball linebacker, with the departure of De’Vondre Campbell the Packers have moved their first-round pick in 2022 to number one on the MLB depth chart. The number two spot is still up for grabs, and two players have their chance to earn it in training camp.

Green Bay Packers Training Camp Battle: Edgerrin Cooper VS Isaiah McDuffie

Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (56) is shown during organized team activities Wednesday, May 29, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Edgerrin Cooper was the consensus most pro-ready MLB in the talented 2024 draft. With athleticism and power off the charts, Cooper checks all the boxes for a modern LB. The 6’2 230 linebacker out of Texas A&M has set himself apart from everyone in his class with a 9.34 RAS score.

watching edgerrin cooper in-depth has been awesome. he initiates contact with so much thunder and he’s so much better at diagnosing everything in front of him than people give him credit for pic.twitter.com/psgS6jmVsa

One of the best plays I saw on Saturday:

Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper keys the screen and beats not one, not two, but three blockers to make the 3rd-down stop. His awareness, athleticism and 34-inch arms on display.

Despite Cooper’s undeniable potential and ability, he has competition to be the second linebacker in a nickel defense.

Isaiah McDuffie played in over 50% of the defensive snaps last season as well as led the Green Bay Packers in tackles (86 combined). McDuffie also has a unique history with the new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, formerly playing under him as head coach of Boston College.

Although McDuffie has proven to be a serviceable threat as a linebacker and special teamer, it is hard to see the Green Bay Packers go with him over the high-upside Cooper, though both men will have a shot at significant snaps.
