The Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation is starting to take shape as we get closer to Opening Day. Freddy Peralta will be the starter for game one and after that DL Hall and Colin Rea figure to follow. Veteran Wade Miley, who has been slowed down this spring, was making progress but he recently revealed that he will start the year on the injured list.
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Wade Miley was scratched from his Spring Training start due to groin tightness and will start the year on the injured list.
Thursday, March 21 was supposed to mark the Cactus League debut of Wade Miley. He entered camp this spring having lost a lot of weight due to a sickness, then experienced shoulder soreness, and now most recently was scratched from live game action due to groin tightness. Following this news Miley revealed that he could have played through it but that he was going to start the year on the injured list anyway so why push it.
Just groin tightness, Miley said. He’s going to throw a bullpen today without the up-downs. Might try to pitch in a game this weekend. Said he was gonna start the year on the IL anyway so figured he shouldn’t push it. https://t.co/CfwAMdRZrE

With Miley out of commission to begin the year Joe Ross and Aaron Ashby figure to have big roles with the team. Curg Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Ashby’s last start spanned five innings and that manager Pat Murphy indicated that Ashby will factor into the club early on this year. Ross on the other hand has not pitched in the big leagues since 2021 but was signed to a Major League contract and he has no minor league options remaining.

Other options at starting pitcher include Janson Junk and Robert Gasser. Junk has the ability to be shuttled from the Major and Minor leagues so he is a likely Triple-A candidate initially. Additionally the Brewers have already re-assigned Gasser to minor league camp, but Murphy has indicated that he will make his MLB debut early on in 2024.
