I don’t know what more evidence General Manager Matt Arnold needs to see, but Abraham Toro should be on the Brewers active roster. Since he was sent down to Triple-A Nashville on June 14, he’s been absolutely raking.
In 56 games for the Sounds, Abraham Toro is batting .251, with three home runs, 31 RBIs, and 51 hits in 203 at-bats. He also won International League (AAA) Player of the Week today.

The Milwaukee Brewers Should Call Up AAA 3B Abraham Toro
Understandably, the Brewers are trying to maintain roster flexibility by calling players up and sending them down, but what is the point of sending players down those who have shown that they can hit at the Major League level?
Milwaukee has the second-worst offense in baseball (Only Oakland is worse). The two-hitting coaches haven’t worked. They haven’t had an elite hitting coach since Dale Sveum.
It’s the same story every year with this team. They can get runners on, but they can’t drive them in. The Brewers are only batting .251 with RISP, a .328 OBP, a .398 OPS, and only 161 hits.
This isn’t a good offense, and it won’t get any better, so why not call up Abraham Toro? He’s better than the options that are currently on the roster. Matt Arnold traded and signed for players known for getting on-base, but it hasn’t worked this season. Sure, Milwaukee has had games where they’ve scored runs in bunches, but they’ve had way more games where the opposing pitching staff has held them in check.
Abraham Toro was sent down so that the team could sign LF Raimel Tapia, who the Boston Red Sox recently released. Tapia is batting .167 with the Crew, which is starkly different from his tenure with the Red Sox, in which he was hitting .264. So Tapia hasn’t brought much value to the Brewers so far.
It remains to be seen if Abraham Toro gets called up, but based on the offensive output this season, he would be a drastic improvement. His ability to make contact and get on base should be attributes Milwaukee looks for if they hope to improve their offense with a little over two months remaining in the season.
