The Green Bay Packers moved on from their long-time star left tackle David Bakhtiari this off-season. It was a move that made sense at the time, but certainly tugged on the heartstrings of many Packers fans.
Bakhtiari has made it clear that he isn’t done playing in the league. There were rumblings that he wanted to come back to Green Bay, however, his $40M cap hit coupled with his recent injury history proved to be too much for the team.
Now there seems to be a favorite emerging to land the All-Pro Left Tackle.
Former Green Bay Packers LT David Bakhtiari Could Land With AFC Super Bowl Contender

According to Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports:
The Green Bay Packers signed former Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft pick Andre Dillard on Thursday, but not before he took a visit with the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Dillard visited the Chiefs before making his free agency decision. This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, given that Kansas City has around $20 million in cap space available and a need for competitive depth at the offensive tackle position.
Just this week, Andy Reid spoke about Wanya Morris and the left tackle position. He made it sound as if Morris wouldn’t be given the starting job without significant improvement. At the very least, competition is coming at the tackle spot, be it through free agency, the 2024 NFL draft, or both.
If they wanted to go a low-risk, high-reward route, they could take a swing with former Green Bay Packers LT David Bakhtiari. He’s managed to play in just 13 games since tearing his ACL late in the 2020 NFL season. If he’s fully healthy, he could prove to be a steal.
Beyond that trio of players, it’s pretty slim pickings for Kansas City. Most of them are likely to sign with teams after the 2024 NFL draft at this point. The Chiefs might not feel overly pressured into picking a position out of need, but it’s hard to imagine a situation in which offensive tackle isn’t addressed at some point in the draft.
Will Bakhtiari Land With A New Team In 2024?

The future of Bakhtiari’s playing career remains to be seen. His rehabilitation remains ongoing, and he is still trying to return to the field. There is no surprise at all that teams may be hesitant to sign him. He’s 32-years-old and has been rehabbing for years now. Over the last three years, he has played only 13 games.
New York Jets seemed to be the obvious landing spot for the left tackle. Bakhtiari has been Aaron Rodgers’ longtime friend both off and on the field. However, that dream seemed to fade out when the Jets signed veteran left tackle Tyron Smith.
A contender like the Chiefs makes sense for Bakhtiari. He proved in Week One of the 2023 season that when he is healthy, he is still one of the best left tackles in the NFL. Teams who are in a “win now” mode may be more inclined to take a chance on him.
