Milwaukee Brewers big off-season addition Rhys Hoskins has checked a few boxes early on this spring. The slugger is less than one year out from ACL surgery and already he has trekked from first base to home on one swing of the bat, he has played his defensive position (first base), and most recently he hit his first home run in nearly a year.

On Tuesday, March 5 Rhys Hoskins took San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb deep for not only his first home run of the spring but his first long ball in nearly a year. The last time that Hoskins hit a home run in a game was March 20, 2023. At that time he was still a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Expect plenty more home runs from Rhys Hoskins.
The Brewers signed Hoskins knocking that he has plenty of thump in his bat. Outside of the shortened 2020 season he has hovered near or above 30 home runs every year since his rookie season in 2018 when he still managed 18 longs balls in 50 games.
“Obviously you want to make sure it’s still in there. I always say this every spring: You’ve got to hit one or two, just to give yourself a little confidence. But usually no more than that — you don’t want to waste ’em.”

How has Rhys Hoskins performed during spring training?
So far this spring Hoskins has accumulated just seven at-bats. His home run shown above was his first hit, but prior to that he had drawn three free passes. Milwaukee wanted to take things slow with him early on, but now that opening day is three and a half weeks away he may start to see more consistent playing time and consecutive days out on the field.
