The Milwaukee Brewers signed free agent Rhys Hoskins to a contract this off-season. He was arguably the best first baseman available, but didn’t play for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2023 due to sustaining an ACL tear during a spring training game. Last year he tried to make it back for the Phillies post season run but was unable to.
On March 1, 2024 Rhys Hoskins played in his first baseball game in nearly a year.
March 23, 2023 is a day that Rhys Hoskins will forever remember as he had to be carted off the field after sustaining a knee injury during a spring training game with the Philadelphia Phillies. The diagnosis was an ACL tear and he underwent surgery to repair this. Nearly a year later, this time with the Milwaukee Brewers, he served as their designated hitter and went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Rhys Hoskins’ knee got put to the ultimate test during his first game with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The first at bat for Hoskins this spring was a walk. He then had his knee tested on a play where he scored from first base. Christian Arroyo delivered a single and then an error in the outfield allowed Hoskins to make the first to home trek.
Are there any other hurdles that Rhys Hoskins has to overcome yet?
Per Hoskins the last big thing that he wants to accomplish yet is to play the field and be able to fully trust the knee without thinking about it. He states that he isn’t there yet but is hoping to play the field soon and get over this final hurdle.
