The Milwaukee Brewers have been on the hunt for a new manager ever since Craig Counsell went to the dark side (aka the Chicago Cubs). The move was announced late Monday night.
After Craig Counsell’s Exit, Bench Coach Pat Murphy Is Being Promoted To Manage The Milwaukee Brewers
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Craig Counsell’s right-hand man Pat Murphy will replace him as manager. After being fired by the Padres, Murphy joined the organization in 2015 as an interim manager.
For the past eight years, Murphy has served as the Brewers’ bench coach. In 2015, he served as interim manager for 96 games for the San Diego Padres, prior to joining Milwaukee’s organization. Prior to managing in the major league system, Murphy spent 4 1/2 years managing the Eugene Emeralds of the now-defunct short-season low-A level.
Additionally, Murphy spent 26 years in the college ranks from 1983 to 2009, including stints at the University of Notre Dame and Arizona State. Murphy coached 30 future major leaguers during his 26-year collegiate coaching career, including former Brewers manager Craig Counsell.
Murphy has a career coaching record of 947-400-2. The Brewers certainly hired someone with the type of experience to be successful.
