The Milwaukee Brewers are buying at this year’s trade deadline in which leading up to the final 24 hours they have swung trades for Carlos Santana and Mark Canha. Across the league several other deals have gone down as well in which two former Brew Crew infielders were involved in separate trades.
Former Milwaukee Brewers infielders Mark Mathias and Jace Peterson were both involved in trade deadline deals.
At last year’s trade deadline the Milwaukee Brewers traded infielder Mark Mathias along with pitching prospect Antoine Kelly to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Matt Bush. Since then he has played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners. He now will be joining another new organization as the Mariners have traded him and AJ Pollock to the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later or cash.
A second former Brewers infielder to be traded was Oakland Athletics second baseman Jace Peterson. On base Jace signed a two year, $9.5 MM deal with the A’s during the offseason but has now been traded to the NL West contending Arizona Diamondbacks. The cost to acquire Jace Peterson was minor league pitcher Chad Patrick.
Of these two players Jace Peterson should have a significant role in the Diamondbacks push for the playoffs. Mark Mathias’ role is more unknown and it is possible that the super utility infielder doesn’t make it on the Giants active roster.
