The Milwaukee Brewers announced some news on Saturday as they elected to DFA reliever Matt Bush one day after he blew a save to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 37 year old now has one week to be claimed off of waivers or be traded. If neither of these happen odds are high that he will become a free agent.
For Matt Bush and the Brewers the decision to move on from him had been looming for quite some time. He has allowed more earned runs than innings pitched this year (9.58 ERA in 10.1 innings pitched), has walked six batters, and surrendered five home runs. A lengthy stint on the injured list preserved his life in the organization but his blown save against the Pirates on Friday night was the straw that broke the camels back.
Milwaukee Brewers News: Matt Bush and Thomas Pannone have been DFA’d, JB Bukauskas recalled and Clayton Andrews selected from Triple-A Nashville.
Thomas Pannone also pitched in the loss to the Pirates on Friday night. He was one of two relievers who were available to pitch. Similar to Matt Bush he has been DFA’d.
Coming up on the roster is JB Bukauskas and Clayton Andrews. Bukauskas was claimed off of waivers in April this year. Andrews is a former two-way player that was drafted in 2018 and eventually elected to focus on pitching. At 26 years old he will get to make his MLB debut with the Brewers.
