The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers both have entered the All-Star break positioned to be buyers at the upcoming August 1 trade deadline. In the NL Central Milwaukee is 49-42 and they trail the Cincinnati Reds by just one game. On the west coast LA is 51-38 and tied for first with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both clubs will be looking to add at this year’s trade deadline.
This year MLB Insider Robert Murray has leaked that the Dodgers really like shortstop Willy Adames. LA fans have been all over this news and all season have been hopeful that Milwaukee would fall in the standings and sell their shortstop at the deadline for extending him in the future may be difficult for the small market Brewers.
Unfortunately for Dodgers fans this has not happened. Despite this a recent article threw out a preposterous idea of how they might pry away Willy Adames from the Brewers via trade.
Preposterous Milwaukee Brewers-Los Angeles Dodgers trade proposal sends Christian Yelich and Willy Adames to the west coast.
The title of this article from the Dodgers Way is “Can Dodgers use Christian Yelich trade to get what they really want”. In their trade proposal they believe that LA is one of the few teams that would be willing to pick up Yelich’s contract and that because he put together an impressive first half of the season he is finally tradeable after a few down seasons.
There are a few wrinkles however. One being that there are other high payroll teams like the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and New York Yankees that more than likely could afford to take on AAV of $23.89 million through 2028. Secondly, Christian Yelich has a full no-trade clause. Sure he is from California but his personality suits smaller market teams.
This trade proposal becomes even more ridiculous given that Willy Adames is also being involved in this blockbuster deal. Writer Adam Weinrib also throws Corbin Burnes name into the mix as a back up plan should the Brewers not want to part ways with their shortstop.
Could the Dodgers offer to pay off a large portion of the remaining years of Christian Yelich’s contract in exchange for Yelich and Adames? What about Corbin Burnes, if the Brewers aren’t willing to discuss their centerpiece shortstop? Or is this all too drastic, considering Adames’ 1.1 bWAR and 84 OPS+ should make him more readily available than ever?
In the end the Brewers are not going to move any of the above three mentioned players. Matt Arnold has already announced to the media that he is not considering trading Corbin Burnes. He believes in the group they have and position players Willy Adames and Christian Yelich will play major roles in how their season turns out.
