The Milwaukee Brewers outfield currently consists of Christian Yelich, Joey Wiemer, and Tyrone Taylor. Brian Anderson has split between outfield and third base duties and Jesse Winker can play a corner spot if needed. Unfortunately they will likely be without Garrett Mitchell for the remainder of the season and Sal Frelick recently underwent thumb surgery that will sideline him for 6-8 weeks.
With the Brewers current outfield and designated hitter makeup it’s possible at some point this season they consider switching it up and bringing in someone new. Recently the Kansas City Royals designated outfielder/designated hitter Franmil Reyes for assignment. Should Milwaukee look to target him?

The Kansas City Royals have DFA’d Franmil Reyes, should the Milwaukee Brewers target him?
This transaction officially occurred on Monday May 8, 2023. In 19 games with the Royals the former multiple time 30+ home run slugger had just a .186 batting average and two extra base hits. His strikeout numbers have continued to climb over recent years and 2023 has been no different as he is striking out at a 36.9% clip.
Overall the power numbers have dipped for Reyes. He is just a few years out from hitting 37 long balls in 2019 and 30 in 2021, but in addition to increased strikeouts he is not hitting for a high average nor getting on base at a consistent enough clip.
One thing Franmil Reyes has going his way is that he hits left-handed pitching well. His career numbers show a .269 batting average, .824 OPS, and 115 OPS+. This has been an area that the Brewers have struggled in, so if they were going to target him it would likely be to have him serve in a platoon role only.
All things said the Brewers targeting Franmil Reyes seems unlikely. While he would be able to help against southpaws his otherwise high strikeout numbers and limited defensive ability of a below average corner outfielder does not seem like a good fit for the Brew Crew.
