As luck has it two Milwaukee Brewers outfielders were injured on the same day last week. In the big leagues Garrett Mitchell sustained a shoulder injury and in the minor leagues Sal Frelick a thumb injury. Both injuries will be treated with surgery and they will miss a substantial amount of time recovering.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielders Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick will miss substantial time recovering from surgery.
Garrett Mitchell most recently got a second opinion regarding his shoulder injury. Unfortunately the end result is that he will need surgery. His surgery will likely occur sometime next week. There is not time table for return at this point but he likely will miss the remainder of the 2023 season.

Sal Frelick’s thumb injury was initially thought to be minor, but the Brewers are now reporting that he underwent surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). This will sideline him for 6-8 weeks. If he is able to make a full recovery in the outlined time frame it’s possible that he could still make his MLB debut later in 2023, especially with Garrett Mitchell likely out for the remainder of the season.
From the Brewers: OF Sal Frelick underwent successful UCL repair surgery on his left thumb today and is expected to return in 6-8 weeks.
