2018 was a special season for the Milwaukee Brewers. That year they forced and won game 163 against the Chicago Cubs for the division title and made a deep post season run that ended a game shy of making it to the World Series.
That year they got contributions from several key players. One of those players, who was an All-Star that year, was fan favorite Jesus Aguilar. Since leaving Milwaukee he has played in the Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles, and Oakland Athletics organizations. Around Memorial Day this year he was DFA’d by the A’s.
After clearing waivers and becoming a free agent Jesus Aguilar has found a new home as the Atlanta Braves announced that they signed him to a minor league contract.

Milwaukee Brewers fan favorite Jesus Aguilar has signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves.
The Atlanta Braves are currently well set with Matt Olson at first base and they have gotten production from designated hitter Marcell Ozuna. This signing is a depth move should an injury arise or if they need an additional power bat that excels at hitting left-handed pitchers.
When looking at his career numbers there is over a 100 point difference in batting average between right-handed and left-handed pitchers. Additionally his 2023 season OPS against southpaws is .882 whereas against right-handed hitters it drops to .456.
All-in-all this is a low risk depth signing by the Atlanta Braves. There was no urgency on their part to sign him. It is entirely possible that Jesus Aguilar never makes it up to the big league club, but he will be an option should they need him.
