The Milwaukee Brewers have welcomed two new big league players to their organization. After parting ways with Corbin Burnes by trading him to the Baltimore Orioles they received LHP DL Hall and INF Joey Ortiz in return.
Since this trade reports have surfaced that the two organizations had discussed a similar package months ago, but one day following the Orioles announcement of a new ownership group a deal got done. Overall it seemed like news revolving the trade broke fast without any significant build up.
For the players involved Corbin Burnes actually predicted that he had been traded prior to receiving the news. On the other hand DL Hall said he was preparing for a fishing trip when he found out.
Milwaukee Brewers LHP DL Hall was preparing for a fishing trip when he learned that he had been traded.
“I was headed over to my uncles house and we were gonna be cooking dinner to get ready to go on a little family fishing trip the next day. I got the call from Mike (Eilas) and he Face Timed me to tell me and I was actually in the car with some family and I was like ‘I’ll call him right back.’ Then I got a text from him and said, ‘Hey reach out to me ASAP’.
Once I got that text I kind of had that feeling that something had gone down. Then he broke the news to me. Kinda spent the night trying to come to the realization that I am getting ready to head to Arizona instead of Florida (for spring training), so that was kind of crazy and took a while to set in.”
Despite the trade Hall ended up going on his fishing trip the next day, per his family’s wishes and his agent’s approval. He spent the entire next day out of cell service. The days between him receiving the trade news and when the Brewers pitchers report to spring training is 14 days.
