Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brent Suter reached free agency for the first time in his career this off-season. He spent his first five seasons with the Brew Crew and then was claimed off of waivers last year by the Colorado Rockies. Looking forward to 2024 he now will be playing for his home town team.
Ex-Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brent Suter calls signing with the Cincinnati Reds a dream come true.
The Cincinnati Reds and Brent Suter have agreed to a $3.00 million contract that includes a $3.5 million club option for the 2025 season. His base salary in 2024 will be $2.5 million, but there is a 500k buyout attached to his option year.
For Suter this is a dream come true. He grew up cheering on the Reds as he is a Cincinnati native. His instant reactions included words such as surreal, dream come true, and excitement for himself and his family.
“We are super excited, it’s just a dream come true. The Reds were my favorite team of any sport, anything for years and years growing up. This is absolutely surreal, so cool.”
Suter goes on to say that the Reds had instant and consistent interest in acquiring him. His exact role with the team is currently unknown, but his versatility to serve as both a multi inning and single inning reliever should provide value to a Cincinnati team that made significant strides forward last season.
“They were one of the first teams to reach out and were pretty consistent in calling us. We kind of knew they were interested. We didn’t know how interested. Here recently, they made some moves and it came together really quick. It was super exciting. It’s been a weird and slow market, especially for relievers this year. There were a lot of calls that were touching base. Here recently, it got really exciting.”
Suter and the Cincinnati Reds are scheduled to play the Milwaukee Brewers for the first time in 2024 on Monday, April 6. That game will be at Great American Ballpark. In June Suter will make his return to American Family Field for a weekend series beginning on the 14th.
