The Milwaukee Brewers are buying at this year’s trade deadline in which they have already swung trades for Carlos Santana and Mark Canha. With less than 12 hours to go before the 6:00 PM ET trade deadline a report from Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic has linked them to a left-handed reliever.
Southpaw Andrew Chafin of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been linked to the Milwaukee Brewers.
In Ken Rosenthal’s article titled ‘What I’m hearing around the league’ he has a paragraph on the Arizona Diamondbacks that also links the Brewers to their left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin. Here is what he had to say.
After acquiring closer Paul Sewald and infielder Jace Peterson, they (Arizona Diamondbacks) still want to add a starter. They also are fielding offers for left-handed relievers Joe Mantiply and Andrew Chafin, but unsure whether they want to move either. The Brewers are one of the teams looking at Chafin.
33 year old Andrew Chafin was one off-season free agent target for the Milwaukee Brewers. He ended up signing in Arizona on a one year, $5.5 MM deal that includes a $7.25 MM 2024 club option. Now it is reported that the Diamondbacks are listening to offers on him, but they will likely need to get something that will benefit them in return.
As mentioned above the Diamondbacks want to add another starting pitcher. Milwaukee has had injury problems in their rotation this year, but they currently have a few pitchers that could be expendable including Adrian Houser, Colin Rea, and Julio Teheran. It’s possible that the two sides could strike a deal revolving around one of these three starters.
