Matt Lafleur opens up about the Davante Adams trade

At the Annual League Meeting on Sunday, March 27th, Matt Lafleur opened up to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.  The conversation was centered around the decision to trade start wide receiver Davante Adams to the Raiders.  Matt Lafleur was quoted saying, “Sometimes you got to make some tough decisions.” “Certainly appreciate everything Davante brought to our team. I mean, he is the best receiver in the National Football League, so that was a tough one for me personally and for our organization.”

Tom Pelissero also asked Matt Lafleur if there were any conversations with Adams about trying to get him to stay.  LaFleur replied: “Well, there really wasn’t anything to talk about. I mean, you’re going through a contract negotiation and certainly it was just one of those deals where, like I said, a lot of tough decisions had to be made.”

From the sounds of it, everyone within the Packers organization knew Davante Adams wanted out for a while.  It was kept under wraps fairly well as the trade seemed to surprise most of the general public.  However that is the nature of the beast in this league.  There are many conversations had behind closed doors that never get revealed to the public.

    Looking Ahead:

Regarding the state of Green Bay’s wide receivers: “We’re going to absolutely have to add some pieces to that room and, you know, we got to construct our offense around what we have. You can’t look back and you gotta move forward.”

Green Bay is no stranger to hectic off-seasons.  Last year’s was no different with Aaron Rodgers’ return in questions for a majority of it.  However last seasons’ off-season drama didn’t stop Green Bay from winning 13 games for the third consecutive season, nor did it stop them from winning the division for a third straight year.  As long as 12 is under center, Green Bay is the favorite in the NFC North.

Tom Pelissero finished the interview with:  “do you often dream about having a normal, quiet offseason?”  The Packers coach seemed to be taking it all in stride.  “Every night,” LaFleur replied with a smile. “But I know that’s not the reality of our league.”
