The Green Bay Packers are one of the most exciting teams in the NFL entering the 2024 season. Jordan Love and his young core of wide receivers, along with 2022 NFL rushing leader Josh Jacobs, figure to be among the league’s top offenses this year. After ending the 2023 NFL season 7-3 and upsetting the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, there are high expectations for their production in 2024.
New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has brought a new energy and increased excitement to a unit that has woefully underperformed over the last few years. Everything that defensive players have said about his scheme so far this offseason has led many to believe that they will have the best defense they have had in years.
It seems as if more and more people in the media are buying into the Packers, too, with one NFL analyst naming them as one of 12 teams with a legitimate chance to win the Super Bowl this year.
NFL Analyst Names the Green Bay Packers as 1 of 12 Teams with a Legitimate Chance to Win Super Bowl LIX
In an article in which he lists 12 teams that have a legitimate shot at winning the Super Bowl this year, Sports Illustrated‘s Connor Orr wrote:
“Watching Green Bay wallop the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs last year and then come roaring back against the 49ers in the divisional round was proof that the post-Rodgers Packers have arrived ahead of schedule. This was merely a taste, but after seeing how aggressive Matt LaFleur was in reshaping the defense, it’s proof that he sees what the rest of us do.
“The Packers have the most underrated wide receiver room in the NFL, and the tight end group is ready to wreak havoc after a year of getting acclimated to the NFL. This offense is set up to diversify the Shanahan scheme in a way we may not have seen quite yet thanks to Jordan Love’s situational mobility, and the unique speed and precision route running of this wide receiver group.
“It would not shock me if Green Bay simply remained a step ahead schematically throughout the year, much like the Philadelphia Eagles did during the Carson Wentz–Nick Foles Super Bowl season.”
As seen above, Orr gives a great deal of credit to head coach Matt LaFleur for realizing that his defense needed to change. The decision to move on from Joe Barry was one that was a long time coming in Green Bay, whose fans never really liked the hire to begin with.
Love and his wide receivers also all have a year of experience under their belts. While other NFL teams now have a full season’s worth of film on them, they should still be able to elevate their games given the things that they learned by actually playing in 2023.
Can the Green Bay Packers Repeat Their Super Bowl Pattern?
As Packers fans are well aware, the Brett Favre-led Packers won Super Bowl XXXI during the 1996 season. 14 years later, Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay to victory in Super Bowl XLV.
The 2024 season marks the 14th season since the Packers’ last Super Bowl win. A win this year would keep the 14-year pattern going.
Hopefully, a Super Bowl win in 2024 would not be the only one in Jordan Love’s Packers career, as it was for both Favre and Rodgers.
