Former San Francisco 49ers star Richard Sherman didn’t hold back in his criticism of ex-Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura for suggesting to hurt quarterback Brock Purdy in the upcoming divisional round showdown between the two teams.
What Did Mark Chmura Say About Brock Purdy, Green Bay Packer?

For those who missed it, Chmura went viral on Wednesday after he shared during his radio appearance on ESPN Milwaukee that the Packers need to make a statement and intimidate the 49ers when they meet.
In order to do that, he suggested for the team to incur a 15-yard penalty and pull off a late hit on Purdy. Chmura shared that the 1995 Packers team that he was part of did the same thing when they played the 49ers in the divisional round, noting that Wayne Simmons “kicked the crap out” of Brent Jones back then.
“You guys are going to think I’m crazy, a 15-yard penalty–and I don’t condone this, but I kind of do in the playoffs–a 15-yard penalty for a late hit on Brock Purdy is not a bad thing, as long as it’s worth it. I’m just saying, this is the mindset you go into when it’s battle,” Chmura said.
“Sometimes a 15-yard penalty early in the game is worth it if you knock the living crap out of the guy.”
Sure enough, the comments didn’t sit well with plenty of Packers fan, with many saying that Chmura’s opinion is his alone and that they don’t share the same beliefs.
Richard Sherman Blasts Ex-Green Bay Packers TE

Richard Sherman caught wind of the video and immediately took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his “disgust” over the take.
Sherman highlighted that intentionally hurting opponents to scare them off has no place in sports and shouldn’t be promoted.
“This is disgusting and has no place anywhere in sports or sports commentary. There is never a scenario where this is ok for any person or team,” Sherman wrote along with the video of Mark Chmura’s take.
It remains to be seen if ESPN will take down the video and do something to discipline Chmura following his take. But it’s definitely not a good look for the former player, the team and the network.
