Former Green Bay Packers Tight End Marcedes Lewis Has Bold Message for Team, Jordan Love Ahead of 2024 Season

The Green Bay Packers have accomplished just about everything they set out to do this offseason. They signed the best safety on the free agent market in Xavier McKinney, adding some star power to a position that has been one of their biggest weaknesses over the last few years. Additionally, they signed the best running back on the free agent market in Josh Jacobs, the 2022 NFL rushing leader.

Some of their decisions, however, have been difficult. Releasing five-time All-Pro David Bakhtiari was expected due to his immense salary cap hit, but was unfortunate nonetheless, especially since he had been hurt for so long. The release of Aaron Jones, however, came as a massive surprise (and not the good kind). His subsequent signing with the Minnesota Vikings made the move even more of a blow to the fanbase.

The only thing left of the Packers’ to-do list this offseason is to sign quarterback Jordan Love to a contract extension, and it’s going to be a big one.

When the offseason began, many expected that Packers and Love to agree to a contract extension as soon as he was able. At the time, estimates were that his new deal would pay him around $46-48 million per year. However, the quarterback market has shifted since then.

The Detroit Lions recently gave Jared Goff a four-year contract worth $212 million. His $53 million annual salary, at the time of his signing, was the second highest in the NFL.

More recently, the Jacksonville Jaguars gave Trevor Lawrence a massive five-year $275 million extension. This will pay Lawrence $55 million a year, which ties him with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals for the highest annual salary in the NFL.

By all accounts, Love will make more than that.

In a recent episode of NFL Live on ESPN, analyst Louis Riddick argued that the Packers should not wait any longer to sign Love to his extension. He argued that the longer they wait, the more expensive he will be. And after all, Love is the future of their franchise.

In a comment on the video of Riddick’s argument, former Packers fan-favorite (and current Chicago Bears tight end) Marcedes Lewis sent a three-word message to Green Bay:

    Pay that man !! 🫰🏾

As seen, the 19-year NFL veteran is of the opinion that Love is worth whatever the Packers end up paying him.

That is some pretty high praise from one of the best character guys in the league.
