The Green Bay Packers have had to make some tough decisions this offseason. Among these decisions were the release of two fan-favorite players: Aaron Jones and David Bakhtiari. Jones signed with the Minnesota Vikings not long after his release. Bakhtiari, however, remains a free agent. He is still in the final stages of his rehab from knee surgery, but will be ready to go by training camp.
And make no mistake: Bakhtiari will be playing in 2024. For whom is not yet certain, but he does have options. Bakhtiari recently revealed to Jim Rome that he feels “like the hot girl on campus” because of the number of teams that are reaching out to him.
Bakhtiari also was a recent guest on Adam Schefter’s podcast, during which he said that he wants to play for at least a couple more years. The five-time All-Pro also said that he plans on playing for the next Super Bowl MVP, as winning a title is really the last honor that he needs to accomplish.
With this in mind, one writer believes Bakhtiari would be a good fit for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Former Green Bay Packers Left Tackle David Bakhtiari Linked to the Philadelphia Eagles

If Bakhtiari wants to win a Super Bowl, there are far worse choices for a team to join than the Eagles. After all, the recently played in the title game in 2022. Despite their first round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last postseason, they are still considered by many to be the favorites to come out of the NFC East.
Patrick McAvoy, who covers the Eagles for Sports Illustrated, thinks that Bakhtiari would be a great fit in Philadelphia:
“One player who could be an intriguing option for the Eagles is former Green Bay Packers star David Bakhtiari. He has been one of the best tackles in recent memory but has only appeared in 13 total games over the last three seasons due to injuries.
“He now is a free agent and seemingly is healthy heading into the 2024 season. The Eagles are loaded on the offensive line, but if he’s available, why not take a chance on him at a discount? From 2016 through 2020 he was named a Pro Bowler three times and picked up five All-Pro nods.
“Philadelphia is in a good spot on the offensive line, but it has money to spend, and bringing in someone like Bakhtiari only could help.”
While it is true that brining in Bakhtiari would not hurt any team, there is one sticking point that may prevent the Eagles from being able to sign the five-time All-Pro.
Former Green Bay Packers Left Tackle David Bakhtiari Does Not Want to Be a Backup

Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin
In his interview with Schefter, Bakhtiari was asked about what role he saw himself playing next season with whatever team he chooses to sign with. He responded by saying that he has always been a left tackle and prefers to stay there. However, he would be willing to play right tackle if the situation called for him to do so.
What he does not want to do, though, is come off the bench. He has no interest in being a swing tackle or backup.
Philadelphia has Lane Johnson at right tackle. Like Bakhtiari, he has made multiple All-Pro teams. Johnson also is a five-time Pro Bowler.
Over at left tackle, the Eagles have Jordan Mailata. While he does not have the accolades of Johnson or Bakhtiari, he has been the starter there for four years.
While adding Bakhtiari to their line may sound like a good idea, there just might not be a spot for him, or at least a spot he is willing to take.
