Green Bay Packers News: All eyes will be on Jordan Love as he enters his first season as the top dog in Green Bay. However, it’s not just the young quarterback who’s going to be placed under a microscope in 2023. A handful of other players are also expected to step it up this season, which includes incoming second-year defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt.
Green Bay Packers News: Time to Get on Board the Devonte Wyatt Hype Train
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report listed three Packers players that have impressed in training camp thus far, and whether or not we should all buy in on the hype. Unfortunately, Ballentine does not believe that wide receiver Malik Heath is going to live up to the lofty expectations. The reporter had a much different tone for Wyatt, though.
Ballentine argues that “the Packers are depending on him too much for him to fail.” He also points out that apart from how Wyatt has been turning heads this summer, the fact that Green Bay also allowed both Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed to leave via free agency speaks volumes about how much trust they have in Wyatt.
The 25-year-old also expects nothing less from himself:
“I’m a lot more focused, not much stress. I hit the rookie wall about the beginning of the year, but it’s gone now. Now it’s just time to take that next step,” Wyatt said (h/t Rob Demovsky of ESPN).
Green Bay Packers News: Hype Is Also Real for Zach Tom
Another player that Ballentine believes will ball out this coming season is OL Zach Tom. There’s also a lot of buzz surrounding Green Bay’s fourth-round pick from last year’s draft, and it looks like he’s primed for a breakout campaign:
“Tom has made waves at training camp as well, reportedly coming into the season with 15-20 pounds of added weight to his frame. And it appears to be helping him play at a higher level so far,” Ballentine wrote.
Tom is reportedly going to fight for minutes at right tackle, but there have also been suggestions about the 24-year-old potentially stepping into the center position. Don’t be surprised if Tom breaks into the starting lineup in 2023.
