The Green Bay Packers are hoping for a second-year leap from many players. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Quay Walker, and Kingsley Enagbare all played significant snaps for the team in 2022. The team is hoping to see some great development in the offseason. Another player that the Packers have high expectations for is Devonte Wyatt and Joe Barry talked about his importance in a recent press conference.
#Packers DC Joe Barry on expectations for Devonte Wyatt in his second season: "Disruption. The sacks are what get talked about all the time, but just to be an all-around disruptive player. He's got that quickness, he's got that athleticism."

Green Bay Packers Expectations For Devonte Wyatt
Defensive coordinator Joe Barry has some high but realistic expectations for Wyatt.
“Disruption. The sacks are what get talked about all the time, but just to be an all-around disruptive player. He’s got that quickness, he’s got that athleticism.”
Barry is predicting wild sack numbers. He just wants Wyatt to be a disrupting force. Kenny Clark is next to him and gets plenty of double-teams. This will leave many one-on-one matchups for Wyatt. If he can win those matchups and disrupt the timing of the quarterback, it will go a long way in helping the Packers’ defense in 2023.

Run Defense
Another aspect where Wyatt’s disruption would be great is in the run game. The Packers always seemed to find themselves in 2nd and short and/or 3rd and short situations. It is a lot easier for an offense to get four yards than it is eight. A big reason for this was that the Packers were giving up five to six yards on the ground on first down. If Wyatt can become a disruptor in the run game on first down, it will allow the pass rush to pin their ears back and go after the quarterback on 3rd and long.
The defense as a whole needs to step up but Devonte Wyatt is a player that many Green Bay Packers fans will be watching. The team spent a first-round pick on him. The hope is he blossoms into a force on the line.
