Ever since 2007, Mark Murphy has served the Green Bay Packers as the franchise’s president and CEO. But for one fan, it seems that the time for him to step down from his position should be as soon as possible.
This call comes at a time when the Packers’ future is looking as bright as ever. For starters, the trade that sent Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets should have sent the team falling down the standings this season. Instead, Jordan Love had a breakout season that saw Green Bay reach the playoffs and face the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers.
After being eliminated by San Francisco in a heartbreaking manner, the Packers will enter the offseason with a number of picks that can be used to infuse the roster with young talent. Also, there are several free agents that can be signed in the coming months to bolster Green Bay’s campaign to reach the Super Bowl.
These recent achievements fall under Murphy’s tenure as the Packers’ president and CEO. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the team’s momentum will carry over to the next season.
Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy Shoots Back At Fan’s Request For Himto Retire
With almost 17 years of service to the Packers under his belt, Murphy has definitely done a lot for the franchise. But for Justin M. from Tucson, Arizona, the time is ripe for him to step down.
In an e-mail he wrote to Murphy:
“I am emailing today to express my disappointment and dissatisfaction with the franchise and its direction during your tenure as CEO,” the fan wrote. “I believe it is long overdue for you to retire and give control of the organization to someone else who is more properly prepared to take the team into the future. Your leadership has been inept. You do not deserve to lead such a storied franchise. Please disappear into retirement ether. Nobody likes you. You have never been a good executive. I wish you the worst in your twilight years,” Justin wrote.
Murphy responded using his monthly column on the Packers’ official website:
“Thanks for sharing your opinion, Justin. I also appreciate the 11 other emails you’ve recently sent with similar suggestions. I get your point. You will be pleased to know that I am required to retire in July 2025 under our by-laws,” Murphy wrote.
With a short response, Murphy certainly came out of this situation the winner. It seems the Packers’ CEO and president will be here for a little while before he eventually steps down.
