No one gave the Green Bay Packers much of a chance to make any noise this season after trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Every single rival made fun of Jordan Love and expected the Packers to falter and fall to the bottom of the NFL. Obviously, with a win-and-in situation against the Chicago Bears in Week 18 action, the Packers have completely exceeded expectations and proven their critics wrong.
Even if the Packers fail to beat the Bears this week, they have accomplished more than anyone thought they could. Love has also proven that he has a good chance to be next behind Brett Favre in Rodgers as quarterback greats in Green Bay.
After blowing out the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 on the road, the Packers have opened a lot of eyes around the NFL. They are getting a lot of praise from the media for their current franchise status.
Respected NFL Analyst Showers Green Bay Packers With Praise
Andrew Brandt has taken notice of the Packers and of the future that they have built for themselves. He did not hold back from showering Green Bay’s front office and the team itself with praise.
Packers 2023:
First-year starting QB;
Cheapest WR group in NFL;
Cheapest TE group in NFL;
$41M Dead Cap charge for Aaron Rodgers;
For much of year: no RB1, CB1, CB2, OL1, WR1,TE1;
Win at home vs. Bears next week, and make the playoffs.
Not bad for a rebuilding year with new QB.— Andrew Brandt (@AndrewBrandt) January 1, 2024
Thinking of how good this team has played with such young players is impressive in and of itself. Adding in the future flexibility that the Green Bay Packers have created is even more impressive.
Granted, the Packers are going to have to think about a new contract for Jordan Love in the near future. He isn’t going to be cheap with the way he has been playing in his first season as the starter. They will also have tough decisions to make on pieces like Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, along with plenty of others.
However, the Green Bay Packers have set themselves up for future success. They should be able to aggressively pursue roster upgrades around Love.
Expect to see this team be a force in the NFC for years to come. Brian Gutekunst and the front office have done things the right and smart way. That approach has give Packers fans major reasons for excitement.
