The Green Bay Packers lost to the Denver Broncos 19-17 in a game played after their bye week. As they search for their identity in the 2023 season, the Packers fall to a season record of 2-4.
Green Bay Packers vs. Denver Broncos First Half
The Packers once again struggled to get their offense going at the beginning of the game. They only gained 100 yards, while the Broncos managed to gain 209 yards. Additionally, the Packers’ defense had a hard time stopping the Broncos’ running game, allowing them to gain 90 yards on the ground.
This slow start for the Packers is not uncommon, especially after long or bye weeks. Unfortunately, this trend continued during this game. It’s worth noting that the Broncos came into this game with the 32nd-ranked defense in the league. Moreover, the Broncos have yet to be able to keep an opposing team from scoring in the first half of a game since their Week 9 match against Dallas in 2021.
After returning from a calf injury, Aaron Jones only received five carries during the first half.
Anders Carlson also missed is first field goal of the season.
Green Bay Packers vs. Denver Broncos Second Half
The Packers put together a drive on the opening series, scoring a field goal: twelve plays, 64 total yards, and 3 points. Overall, the Packers looked like a completely different team in the second half, as both the offense and defense clicked. The Broncos would go up 19-17 with less than four minutes left. Jordan Love and the offense would once again go for a game-winning drive. The Packers would come up short as Love would throw an interception on a deep pass.
The Packers’ play-calling on offense frustrated fans, especially in the first half. After almost two weeks off, the team started the game slowly and sometimes looked confused.
The Packers will head back to Lambeau against the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday at 12:00 CT.
