Thanks to an impressive run this season, more eyes are now on the Green Bay Packers moving forward. But if general manager Brian Gutekunst’s declaration is to be believed, a Super Bowl appearance might not be far in the future.
During the previous offseason, the front office decided to move on from Aaron Rodgers by trading him to the New York Jets. This set into motion Jordan Love as the team’s quarterback, which effectively raised Green Bay’s ceiling due to how good he has been on the field.
Even with the league’s youngest roster, the Packers were able to surprise everybody by advancing far into the playoffs. Unfortunately, a couple of costly mistakes during the final minutes of their game against the San Francisco 49ers ended Green Bay’s season recently.
While that loss to San Francisco was heartbreaking, the outlook for the future has never been brighter for the Packers. With Love expected to continue his improvement, Green Bay has a chance to go far again next season.
Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst Gets Bold With Super Bowl Prediction
Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst has a bold declaration for the team’s chances of reaching the promised land down the line. He shares it in an article written by Mike Spofford for the team’s official website:
“With five minutes to go in that (San Francisco) game, we were squarely thinking that’s where we were headed,” he said. “So, I don’t think that’ll ever change here. I mean, that’s really the only goal. We’re not interested in much else.”
In that contest, the Packers were in control for most of the game until several mistakes helped San Francisco win. But even with that loss keeping Green Bay from this year’s Super Bowl, Gutekunst believes the goal of making it is all that matters for the entire team.
The Packers enter the offseason with the plan to improve via the draft or signing experienced veterans to the team. In any case, next season will be one to watch out for Green Bay fans.
