Jordan Love has found himself on the receiving end of some major backlash after his controversial pass in crunch time that led to an interception and the Green Bay Packers’ eventual loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
After the 49ers took the 24-21 lead in the fourth quarter of the divisional round, the Packers still had about a minute to drive down the field and get one final shot to either tie the game or win it. With 52 seconds left on the clock, though, the ball was intercepted after an ill-advised Love pass.

Facing a first-and-10 situation, Love surprisingly rushed to pass the ball and threw it deep into the middle of the field where Christian Watson was waiting. However, it wasn’t only Watson that was there, as there were also a couple of 49ers defenders. Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw also had the space covered, so it wasn’t a surprise when he was able to steal the ball.

As mentioned, it denied the Packers a chance to win or even force overtime. There was really no need for Love to make such throw at such moment, and so many couldn’t help but criticize him for it.
Jordan Love Criticisms Flood After Green Bay Packers’ Loss

Several media personalities, fans and critics questioned Jordan Love’s decision-making on the pass, adding that it was a huge turning point.
While it’s not the only reason the Packers lost, it’s a big reason why Green Bay didn’t win.
“Jordan Love made the worst possible decision in the worst possible time. You never eeeeevvvvveeerrr pass across the field. Such a “rookie” mistake,” an X user said.
Another one wrote, “Kind of rookie mistake Jordan Love hasn’t made in quite some time.”
Carolina Panthers reporter Kassidy Hill added, “Welp. Cardinal sin; back and across. Love had been getting away with it so it’s hard to be too picky. Just bit him at the worst time.”
“That’s a perfectly defensible throw on fourth-and-10 in a desperate situation. First-and-10? Woof,” Andrew Mason of Denver Sports furthered.
Love has since admitted that he committed a “mortal sin” with the botched pass. The 25-year-old signal-caller added that he really thought he could complete the pass, but he made the mistake of not checking the backside.
At the end of the day, Love can only learn from the mistake and the loss. Hopefully, he’ll know better when he gets a chance next time.
