There isn’t a greater individual on-field story for the Green Bay Packers from the 2023 NFL season than the ascent of Jordan Love from being an Aaron Rodgers backup with a blurry outlook in the league into one with a genuine QB1 for the NFC North franchise. After two years of being in the shadow of a future Hall of Famer, Love took full advantage of the opportunity to prove himself. And prove himself was all he did in 2023, as he also showed great improvements in a couple of areas that benefited greatly his team’s attack.

Two areas where Love really improved were in his play under pressure and his downfield accuracy. From Week 11 through the end of the season, Love ranked sixth in completion rate when under pressure and second in yards per attempt with eight touchdowns to one interception. Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements credits Love’s decision-making in these moments, specifically knowing where to go with the ball, for his improved play. On pass attempts of 20-plus yards during that same time frame, Love ranked seventh in completion rate and first in passing yards.

It’s amazing what Love did under center in 2023 amid the pressure to deliver not just for the Packers but for his career. He finished the season with 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns against 11 interceptions while completing 64.2 percent of his passes. Making it all the more impressive was the fact that two of his top three receivers were rookies in the forms of Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks — neither was drafted in the first round.
Needless to say, the Packers have a solid one in Love, who will look to steer Green Bay in 2024 further than the divisional-round finish the team had in the last NFL playoffs.
