There’s no doubt that the Green Bay Packers had an incredible run this season. And while the main culprit is how good Jordan Love has been, general manager Brian Gutekunst reveals another reason for the team’s rapid growth.
Before the season began, the Packers were expected to fall in the standings and be devoured by most teams in the NFL, especially after the front office traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Instead, Love had a breakout campaign and helped the team reach the playoffs.
From there, the Packers impressed everyone by having a deep playoff run that ended in a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Even with their elimination from the playoffs, there’s no denying how much the team has grown in such a short period of time.
Things are also expected to get better for the team, thanks to a number of picks in the upcoming draft or hiring new personalities in the coaching staff. With these moves, the Packers can raise their ceiling for next season’s campaign.
Brian Gutekunst Shares Secret Behind Growth of Green Bay Packers Youngsters
Along with Love’s breakout season, there is another reason behind the rapid growth of Green Bay’s younger players. General manager Brian Gutekunst shares his thoughts in an article written by Mike Spofford for the Packers’ official website:
“The biggest thing for me is when you have competition in those rooms, it just allows for guys to accelerate their growth,” Gutekunst said. “When they have to compete each and every day for snaps and playing time, I just think it accelerates everything. “You start to see things. You see guys getting better. You see units getting better. And then it’s just a matter of can you get better in time to get into the tournament, and have a chance?”
Thanks to that little detail, the Packers went on to surpass expectations this season. And if things continue on this course, sky is definitely the limit for Jordan Love and company when the new season starts later this year.
