Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones made the biggest play of the game in Sunday’s 38-20 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Jones slipped out of the backfield on a 4th and 3 play as he glided past former Badger LB TJ Edwards en route to a 35-yard touchdown reception to give the Packers a 24-6 lead in the third quarter.
That play highlighted not only Jones’ elusiveness but also his quickness out of the backfield.
Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones finished with the second-highest top speed in the NFL on Sunday.
According to Matt Schneidman of the Athletic. Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones finished behind Tyreek Hill at top speed on Sunday. [Per Next Gen Stats] Hill hit 21.66, and 21.52 on his two receiving touchdowns. Jones meanwhile hit 21.48 on his touchdown reception. What makes this stat even more ridiculous, is Jones missed the rest of the game after this run due to a hamstring injury.
This is a good silver lining for Aaron Jones because, despite the two touchdowns, it felt the Packers should have given him more opportunities on offense. Jones received only nine carries in Sunday’s game, along with two catches for 86 yards and, as mentioned, the 35-yard touchdown.
It was a good first week for the veteran Jones, and hopefully, he will continue to flourish on offense, but one thing is clear: please don’t refer to him as old.
