The Green Bay Packers became the first seventh seed ever to win a playoff game in NFL history. So what are the chances that they become the first seventh seed to defeat a no. 1 seed as well? While others would say that it’s impossible, Aaron Jones would say otherwise.
Jones expressed his confidence that the Packers have what it takes to win when they play the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round, emphasizing after their Wild Card victory over the Cowboys that they have the “weapons” to make their dream a reality.
“We believe in each other. We have faith in each other. We know we have all the weapons in the building, in that room, however you want to put it, we have all the weapons we need on this team. People can continue to doubt us. That’s fine. We love the underdog mentality. We love the underdog approach. What are people going to say next, you know? We’re excited to see that,” Jones said, via NFL.com.
Many also didn’t expect the Packers to beat the Cowboys. After all, not only were Dallas a Top 5 team on both offense and defense, but they also entered the Wild Card round with 16 straight wins at home–going 8-0 at AT&T Stadium during the 2023 season.
Not to mention that the Packers are the youngest team in the postseason and lack playoff experience. In such situation, it would have been understandable if Green Bay were to lose.
Nonetheless, Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers proved to everyone that records don’t matter in the postseason and everyone has an equal chance to win.
Sure enough, the Packers will hope to replicate their recent success when they play the San Francisco 49ers this coming Saturday.
Can Aaron Jones Replicate Green Bay Packers Dominance?
It’s not hard to see where Aaron Jones’ confidence is coming from. After all, he was one of the main stars–alongside Jordan Love–in the Green Bay Packers’ 48-32 demolition of the Dallas Cowboys during their playoff showdown.
Jones finished with 21 carries for 118 yards and three touchdowns. He was at the heart of the Packers offense, with the Cowboys struggling to find a solution to contain him.
With the running threat Jones brought, the Cowboys’ defense was scattered between trying to slow down the Packers’ aerial and ground game.
Sure enough when they head to San Francisco, fans will hope to see the same level of performance from Jones, or even better. If he can, as the running back himself said, they could pull off another upset.
